The SEAL-HYDROGEN team recently had the pleasure of conducting an immersive site visit to the advanced facilities of our industrial partner, Matteco, located in Valencia (Spain). This visit provided an invaluable opportunity to step inside their operations and see firsthand how our partners are tackling the scaling up of next-generation clean technology.

Guided by our Project Coordinator, Gonzalo Abellán, alongside Vicente Vert and Álvaro Seijas from Matteco, the team was given a comprehensive tour of the state-of-the-art facilities. The day was filled with highly productive discussions surrounding day-to-day operations, corporate culture and the innovative workflows that drive Matteco’s contributions to the project—particularly in the realm of highly efficient, PGM-free catalysts.
Collaborative Insights on Clean-Tech Challenges
A central focus of the visit was discussing how Matteco strategically addresses complex industrial and materials science challenges. Meeting face-to-face allowed the teams to:
- Analyze Technical Workflows: Gain a deeper understanding of the upscaling processes required to transition competitive materials into commercial-scale applications.
- Exchange Methodology: Share insights on tackling common bottlenecks in catalyst-coated substrate production and thermo-mechanical stability.
- Align Project Visions: Deepen the synergy between research insights and industrial engineering as the project advances.
Beyond the rigorous technical exchanges, the team thoroughly enjoyed experiencing Matteco’s vibrant, collaborative workplace culture and the excellent Valencian weather, making the visit both professionally enriching and highly motivating.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Gonzalo, Vicente, Álvaro and the entire Matteco team for their outstanding hospitality, warm welcome and for hosting such an inspiring day of shared learning. Firsthand interactions like these remain vital for keeping the SEAL-HYDROGEN consortium aligned and moving decisively toward our shared green hydrogen goals.
