CONSORTIUM MEETING

The SEAL-HYDROGEN Project Progresses with Fourth Consortium Meeting in Berlin

The SEAL-HYDROGEN project has reached a new milestone with the successful conclusion of its IV Consortium Meeting. Hosted by our partner Siemens Energy at their facilities in Berlin (Germany), this gathering marked a pivotal moment for technical alignment and strategic planning as the project progresses through its timeline.

This meeting brought together the diverse expertise of our consortium partners: Matteco, Siemens Energy, HORIBA, Helmholtz-Institut Erlangen-Nürnberg für Erneuerbare Energien (HI ERN) and Universitat de València.

Technical Progress and Research Excellence

The sessions in Berlin focused on the core promise of the project: developing stable and efficient alkaline water electrolyzers with zero critical raw materials to reduce the cost of green hydrogen production. Key highlights included:

  • Technical Sessions: Partners presented significant progress on stack design. A major focus was the real-time monitoring of catalyst evolution during the oxygen evolution reaction, ensuring high-performance standards.
  • Advanced Characterization: The team engaged in in-depth discussions regarding the electrochemical and Raman characterization of advanced materials. These methods are crucial for enhancing electrode stability and extending system lifetime.
  • Material Innovation: Discussions covered the development of triple-phase boundary electrode structures (catalyst-support-ionomer) designed to improve thermo-mechanical stability.

Strategic Roadmap and Next Steps

Beyond the laboratory results, the meeting served to refine the project’s path toward large-scale commercial deployment. The consortium addressed:

  • Action Points: Clear implementation steps were defined for each Work Package to maintain momentum.
  • Innovation Radar: The team evaluated the «Innovation Radar» to identify and protect key technological breakthroughs.
  • Objectives and Targets: Partners reviewed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure all technical and economic goals are being met.
  • Future Scaling: Planning continued for the transition from laboratory scale toward larger-scale systems.

Strengthening the Green Hydrogen Ecosystem

These meetings are vital for maintaining the synergy between our industrial and research partners. By fusing classic systems with cutting-edge innovations in materials science and catalyst design, SEAL-HYDROGEN is paving the way for a more sustainable and economically viable hydrogen economy.
